Susan Larkin is retired from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She was the Coordinator and University liaison for the Master of Education-Professional Development Learning Community program presented by the School of Education and the Continuing Education Office. This program is for certified teachers seeking a master’s degree. This innovative two-year program meets on weekends and is delivered state-wide in local schools. At one time there were 24 communities state-wide with a combined total of 900 students and 50 master-teacher facilitators. In recognition of her work with the Learning Community Program, Susan received the Classified Staff Award for Exceptional Service from UW-Extension in 2005.
During her time at UW-L, Susan also served on the Campus Climate Committee Steering Committee, an organization whose mission is to foster an inclusive, collaborative, social justice approach to achieving equity across the entire campus.
Susan graduated from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1988 with a B.A. in Art. After graduation she worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Commerce as an Engineering Technician for ten years before leaving for a position at the University.
Before she entered the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1985 to finish an education begun in 1969 at UW-Madison, Susan had experience in office work, bartending, managing a restaurant, newspaper layout and as a telephone operator.
Note: None of this really says who I am. I am the mother of two sons, Ben and Chris, and the grandmother of 6: Miranda – 24, Carson – 11, Maya – 9, Mayson – 8, Max – 6, and Luc – 2. I am widowed and live with my new cat, Chico. I love to search for spring wildflowers in the woods; to garden (mostly perennial flowers); to read (novels, history, cereal boxes if necessary); I draw and paint and am deeply involved in genealogy. In my spare time I go to rummage sales and second hand shops. It’s my contribution to recycling.
