158th Annual Fruhlingsfest Celebration and Potluck
Hooray! It’s summer, it’s time for Fruhlingsfest! Join us at the beautiful old cemetery on Slotty Road for food and fellowship and relaxation. Directions will be posted here, in the newsletter, or you can contact free_congregation@verizon.net.
‘Fruhlingsfest’ translates as ‘spring festival,’ and originally marked the time when the old German members had finished the spring planting and were ready for some fun and fellowship. According to tradition, some of these Fruhlingfests lasted through the night!
This year, we’ll begin with a Freie Gemeinde program around 10am. Andrew Kerr will speak on ‘faith,’ Michael Whaley will read Goethe in the original German, and the program’s music will features pieces by German composers.
After the program, we’ll fire up the grills! Join us for the wonderful company and beautiful summer setting, and to make contact with the old German free thinkers who founded our unique community.
