Reading the Bible: Beyond the Literal
How should one read the Bible, or perhaps any important religious text? Many of us eschew the notion of a literal reading of text as disingenuous, yet we want a reading that allows the text truly to speak to us. Our guest minister for this Sunday, Alan Green, will share with us his own approach to this problem under the rubric of “Context, Metaphor, and Fact.” He writes:
“A solid understanding of these three approaches to reading the Christian Bible are essential for reading it intelligently, whether or not you choose to accept it as a foundation for your faith. We will use the Gospel According to John as a case in point.”
So please join us this Sunday with guest UCC minister Alan Green as we explore the best way to read the Christian Bible. Marita Kelter will be our musician. Child care is provided.
