UU Sunday, March 28th, 2010 – Desire and Buddhism
Desire from a Buddhist Perspective
Buddhist psychology is often more insightful than even contemporary Western psychology. From the very beginning, Buddhism understood the problems of meaning later identified by Western existentialism. It is always fruitful and fascinating to explore connections between Buddhist philosophy and Western philosophy.
Join us this Sunday with Andrew Kerr as we explore connections centered around the notions of fear, desire, and meaning. We will compare and contrast the Buddhist notions of suffering, mindfulness, and nirvana with the Western notions of eros, agape, and freedom. Andrew Kerr will suggest that Buddhism has a unique answer to the religious question, “What is meaningful?”
