Free Thought Sunday, February 21st, 2010 – Debate on Romantic Partnerships

Jan 13th, 2010 by Andrew Kerr | 1

What’s the best kind of Romantic Partnership?  Exclusiveness vs. Free Love

Join the Free Congregation this Sunday for a lively debate and discussion about romantic love!  Should we make lifetime commitments to one person?  Should we be monogamous?  Studies suggest that Americans are questioning the traditional answers.  The American divorce rate remains around 50%, and studies compiling self-reported data show that up to half of all married Americans have had an affair of some kind.  Many cultures endorse having more than one lover, and all the evidence from biology reveals a set of human instincts which are neither monogamous nor interested in life-time romantic commitments.

Andrew Kerr, Speaker of the Free Congregation, will take up the cause of the old tradition.  Amber Westerman will argue that romantic exclusiveness is too possessive and unnatural, and argue for a freer, more open, and more tolerant practice of sex and romance.  After 25 minutes of debate, we’ll open up the floor for discussion.  Bring your questions and your own experiences!  This is such an important topic for all of us.
