Follow Your Dreams: The Importance of Religious Education
So how many people really feel moved by that e.e. cummings quote? Yeah, I’m not surprised, especially in this crowd. We all want that so much; to be “nobody but ourselves.” In our story for all ages, Mr. Plumbottom pulls it off, doesn’t he? But here is the mystery that story leaves: what happens in his heart when he sees that orange spot? He takes courage, certainly, but how? That’s the question I want to discuss today.
What I want to say today is, if we want to be ourselves, we, all of us as human beings, need some kind of religion or spirituality. What I mean is, if you want to follow your dreams, if you want to be yourself and fight that hardest battle and never stop fighting, then you will need courage. You will need the courage to feel that who you really are is worthy, worthy of blossoming into the world. Your religion is whatever in your life gives you that courage.
